Homes

Matthew has a particular interest in maximising space. As land and building costs rise, clever design can assist smaller spaces to ‘punch above their weight’ and fulfil the same functional requirements as larger, lesser considered, spaces. Growing families and the work from home phenomenon have led to a situation where clever design is a valuable tool that enables smaller houses to do more.

As well as fulfilling functional requirements, successful homes should also lift the spirits of the occupants. The challenge is to achieve this within the cost constraints of a project. Matthew has substantial experience providing these solutions to both the high end and the more cost limited end of the market.

Multi Residential

Matthew has extensive experience designing and co-ordinating multi-residential buildings within various council DCP and LEP guidelines.

The development approval process for apartment buildings in NSW has become increasingly complicated, difficult and expensive. Council submission requirements are onerous and require numerous consultant reports just to get applications over the counter.

Matthew possesses a full understanding of the Building Code of Australia (BCA), applicable Australian Standards and the SEPP65 Residential Flat Design Code.

He has the experience and design skill to find the most appropriate and viable solutions for each site.

Matthew has a keen interest in prefabricated building technologies, and has designed a number of successful prefabricated multi-residential buildings.

Retail + Mixed-Use

Space planning within the retail environment is quite specialised. During his years as senior design architect for D+R Architects, Matthew has been exposed to the driving forces behind retail architecture.

Matthew is aware of the specific design requirements that exist for major supermarkets, discount department stores, mini majors and food and beverage.

He has completed countless Feasibility studies to quickly establish the viability of potential sites.
He has designed centres, co-ordinated consultants and produced drawing packages for tendering and construction for retail projects ranging in value up to $90million.

The integration of retail and residential space into the same building is an area of design that Matthew is familiar with. Mixed-use buildings are becoming more common with retail space on the lower levels and multiple residential floors above. For successful integration an understanding of all the issues is essential.
